Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend April 9, 2006 Young boy injured when attempt to free snowbound truck misfires An eight-year-old boy broke both legs Saturday after he was struck by a metal bumper pulled from a stranded truck along the Keno Access Road just east of Howard Prarie Lake. An adult friend of the boy’s family also suffered a broken leg when he was struck by the bumper, which was pulled from the truck after it had become stuck in snow alongside the road, Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters said. Sheriff’s officials Saturday did not release the victims’ names or where they live. Apparently, a truck became stuck and anan attempt was made to pull it out using a tow strap hooked to its bumper. The bumper was ripped free and swung around, hitting the boy and man, who were 20 feet away. The boy was airlifted by a Mercy Flights helicopter to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, where he was treated for compound fractures in his legs. The man was taken by ambulance to RVMC where he was treated for a compound fracture in one leg. Both remained hospitalized.
