Lions take advantage of Butte Fall's bad luck KLAMATH FALLS - The Butte Falls Loggers went into their Skyline A League game with Hosanna Christian without their leading scorer and one of their top reserves. By the time the game ended, another key player was on the shelf with injury. The host Lions took advantage of the Loggers' bad luck and emerged with a 70-63 victory. Jeremy Chronister and Martin Axnick each scored 22 points to pace Hosanna Christian. Nick Rodgers led four Butte Falls players in double figures with 15 points. Tyler Hersom, the Loggers' 6-foot-3 center and their leading scorer, missed the game with a knee injury suffered the previous night against Triad. Shannon Sizemore was also unable to play due to a cut finger suffered at home, while Isaac Stephenson had to retire in the second half after aggravating an ankle injury suffered against Triad. "We did well considering all the guys we lost," Butte Falls coach Lance Bruce said. "We had a chance to win." The Loggers, who slipped to 7-2 in conference play and 13-5 overall, trailed 54-44 after three periods but charged into a 60-60 tie thanks to back-to-back 3-point baskets by Jed Rowden. Butte Falls turned the ball over on its next two possessions and Hosanna Christian converted the miscues into a basket and two free throws by Axnick, a foreign-exchange student who scored 18 points in the second half. Axnick went 8 for 9 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter. BUTTE FALLS (63) - Stephenson 3, Hampton 5, Jed Rowden 12, Kelly Harrington 11, Nick Rodgers 15, Hanson 4, Beals 12, Hoel 1.
