Letters, Oct. 17 By Mail Tribune readers Oct 17, 2022 11:08 AM A A Krause for commissioner I had the pleasure of meeting Denise Krause and found a solid handshake and a person of integrity. She presented her plan for collaborative leadership. Dr. Krause has 25 years of health care and state government experience on her resume. She has managed multimillion-dollar budgets. She is retired and is a small business owner. She has a small family farm, and is a four-generation Oregonian. She has a comprehensive plan for fire prevention, assertive measures to manage water crises equitably, increase affordable housing and decrease homelessness, greater access to mental health and addiction programs, and collaboration with state legislators to secure funding for county needs. She is a good listener and has the experience to meet in the middle, reach out, and welcome all voices. This is the most qualified candidate I have seen in 30 years in the Rogue Valley! Vote for Denise Krause for commissioner. Sue Dolf Ashland Republicans ignore forums Since its establishment 10 years ago, Southern Oregon Climate Action Now has served its mission of educating the public about climate issues by organizing opportunities for candidates to answer questions on climate and the environment. The organizing committees have consistently invited all candidates to attend and meet their voters. On almost every occasion, Republicans have declined to participate, often without even granting the courtesy of a response. Exceptions in the litany of rejections have been Jessica Gomez, Curt Ankerberg and Dave Dotterrer. This cycle, despite repeated invitations, every Republican seeking to represent residents of Jackson County on the county Board of Commissioners, in Salem, or in D.C. is missing. None has offered a cogent explanation for declining. Perhaps candidates should be held accountable for their refusal to participate in an open public forum on critical issues facing Jackson County residents. Christine Haynie Medford
