Missing snowboarder found safe After losing her way on the Mount Ashland ski slopes Saturday evening, a 21-year-old Southern Oregon University student was found Sunday morning in good condition, though cold and tired. Sheriff's deputies said the student, Chikako Shimoyama, was discovered sitting on a Forest Service road at 6:35 a.m. about seven to eight miles southeast of Mount Ashland, where she had been snowboarding the day before. Shimoyama, who had been on the Romeo ski trail when her boyfriend lost sight of her, walked most of the night as temperatures dipped into the mid-20s. Snowpack on the mountaintop measured 110 inches. The Mount Ashland Ski Patrol began the search at 5:45 p.m. Saturday. Jackson County Search and Rescue expanded the search outside the ski-area boundary. They found her Sunday.   Mail Tribune Home | Ottaway Newspapers, Inc. | Dow Jones & Co., Inc. | Privacy | Contact Us Copyright 2001 Mail Tribune, Inc.
