If the survival bags had been dropped, how close would they have been to the location he was found? -- Kurt O., Lincoln City Search and rescue crews were preparing to drop 18 packets, which contained a bright orange sweatshirt, sweat pants, a large wool blanket, socks, gloves, waterproof bib overalls, three half-hour flares, a flashlight, a handwarmer, a packaged meal and a personal letter from the family, up and down the Big Windy Creek drainage. Searchers on the ground believed they were close to Kim, who was stranded with his family and went to find help, and expressed hope that the supplies would fall near Kim before crews could make their way over rugged terrain to him. Fog grounded helicopters the morning of Dec. 6 so they couldn't deliver the packages. When the fog cleared, helicopters immediately started searching the most likely places to find Kim. They soon spotted Kim's body and lowered a rescue worker. One care package was dropped at that location so workers could use the supplies as they recovered Kim's body, Josephine County search and rescue officials said.
