Mayor Marian Telerski announced Friday the resignation of Katrina Hill, effective the first week of June. Hill, who was appointed to fill an empty council seat in February 2000 and then elected to the position that November, cites personal reasons for her decision. "It has nothing to do with the council; I’m going to be true to some personal commitments," she said. "In fact, it’s a very difficult decision in that I’m a devoted, dedicated and responsible person." This announcement comes just nine days after the council accepted Jodi Yap’s resignation at its May 15 meeting. Yap cited personality conflicts with other council members. Hill is waiting until council member Doug Turner returns from a business-related leave of absence to officially resign. "Katrina’s resignation was not to be effective until Doug came back so a quorum will not be an issue," said City Administrator Betty Wheeler. Hill worked very hard on the master plan for the Wagner Creek greenway, the mayor said. "Katrina was a very dedicated and integral part of our council and we will miss her," she said. Hill said she wanted to encourage residents to come forward and apply for the two positions. "It’s a prime time to step forward and be heard and have a say in the future of Talent," she said. The council will interview applicants for Yap’s and Hill’s seats at 5:30 p.m. June 5 before its regularly scheduled meeting. Applications are available at City Hall, 204 E. Main St., and must be turned in by June 4. Both positions are for six months and applicants are not obligated to run for the office when the term is up in January.
