"Wednesday, I will have been here nine months," Monica said in court. "Waiting another six months would be ridiculous. I don't want to continue waiting in that damn place. I want a trial." Jackson County Circuit Judge Tim Barnack repeatedly told the 66-year-old welder that waiting a year for a murder trial was normal, let alone for the two murder charges she faces for allegedly shooting and dismembering two former handymen at her Wimer pig farm more than a year apart. Barnack told Monica that it takes time to assemble and test all the forensic evidence in the case, in part because the state of Oregon has only one lab doing DNA analysis. "You can't get it done in a year," Barnack told Monica. Barnack scheduled the two-week trial to start on April 13, which was was agreed upon by her court-appointed attorneys as well as prosecutors. Such scheduling hearings are normally routine and take mere minutes, but Monica stood and delivered several outbursts to Barnack in a fashion that has typified every one of her court appearances. The visibly thinner and at times shaken Monica asked to be there. She wore orange nail polish to match her jail garb, along with her trademark wig over her bald head. Barnack repeatedly told Monica not to comment in court on what she believes is evidence in her case, saying that she will be given a chance to speak to a jury when it is empaneled in April. Barnack told Monica it is "wise on your behalf" to let her attorneys do their jobs, although she has tried and failed to get them fired from her case. He repeatedly told Monica that moving up the trial was not a reasonable request, and the wait until April will help ensure that she will receive a fair trial and that her attorneys will have time to put together her defense. "And, frankly, if you're convicted, it's life," Barnack told Monica. "So what's another six or seven months? Think about it." Monica said in court that her house has been ransacked and credit cards stolen, and defense attorney Christine Herbert said information on that was forwarded to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff's Sgt. Nathan Sickler said outside of court that fraudulent use of her credit cards was discovered about a week ago, and his agency has launched an investigation. Sickler said he did not know how many instances of fraud had occurred or where. "We're investigating it, and hopefully we'll be able to identify the person in a couple weeks," Sickler said. Monica is accused of shooting and dismembering 56-year-old Robert Harry Haney and 59-year-old Stephen Frank Delicino, whose bodies were found in January at Monica's 20-acre pig farm at 9184 W. Evans Creek Road. The indictment asserts that Delicino was murdered in summer 2012, and that Haney was murdered in September 2013. Monica was arrested Jan. 10 after she was found to be using Haney's Oregon Trail card, leading to a search of her farm that revealed the bodies. Prosecutors in previous court hearings have said Monica shot both victims in the head, made incriminating statements to investigators about the crimes and that investigators have amassed mounds of evidence supporting her statements. Monica in court Monday called the allegations against her "absurd" and said she would be willing to stipulate "to most everything they have right now" to get the trial moved up. Barnack refused.
