There will be live music as well as beverages provided by Extreme Juice Co. in Medford. The event is for all ages and is free of charge. The group plans to build a 50-foot-diameter walking labyrinth, inlaid with 951 memorial tiles, in Bear Creek Park between the skate park and the tennis courts. The project, which will be paid for by the group, was approved by the Medford City Council last year. Kris Earl, coordinator of Jacob’s Labyrinth project and case manager for Rogue Valley Medical Center hospice services, said the group hopes to raise about $50,000 for the project. The idea came about after a group of 16- to 23-year-olds had lost four of their friends in a 10-month period. Since meditative labyrinths are sometimes used for introspection or grieving, the process of planning and building one seemed cathartic for the young adults. Part of the proposal includes an opportunity for anyone to personalize tiles to honor loved ones who have died. The project is named for Jacob Lowell of Medford, who committed suicide in September 2003 at age 21. For more information or to make donations, contact Kris Earl, 601-6178.
