Buxton started things off with a bang, taking the opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown, and later added a 16-yard TD run in the first quarter. Senior quarterback Brett Stephens found Smith late in the opening quarter with an 18-yard touchdown pass. "The game got away from us early," said Crater coach John Beck. "The good thing is the kids stayed and battled to the end." Another Buxton TD run and Smith scoring reception in the second period put Roseburg up 35-0 at halftime. Advertisement "It was a poor performance by us," Beck said. "It was one of those things where we couldn’t put things together offensively." The Indians didn’t miss a beat after the break with Stephens’ third TD pass, a 14-yarder to Josh Brink. James Snyder scrambled in from 14 yards out to cap the scoring barrage. Junior running back Callan Hartzer paced the Comet offense with 76 yards on 17 carries. "I thought our running backs ran extremely hard," Beck said. "They all did a good job blocking and running the ball." Crater’s best scoring opportunity came in the second quarter with a drive to the Roseburg 36 before the Indian defense finally held. Roseburg improved to 4-2 in the Southern Oregon Conference, while the Comets (0-6, 0-4 SOC) remain winless. Southern Cascade League BONANZA 24, ST.
