Mail Tribune 100, Jan. 29, 1916 The following news items have been drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jan. 29, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted Jan. 29, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News Jan. 29, 1916 NEW AUTOMOBILE FIRM INCORPORATES; SELLS DODGE CARS The Bernard Motor company has been incorporated with $25,000 capital to handle the Dodge automobile in southern Oregon. A. A. Bernard is president and general manager and Henry Keine secretary and treasurer. The company will occupy the Barnum garage now in process of construction, on Front street, across from the Southern Pacific depot. The garage will be 50 by 100 feet, include a fine show room and have storage capacity for twenty-five cars. Auto supplies will be carried. The repair shop will be conducted by George Barnum, assisted by experts. The company has secured the agency for the Dodge car for Jackson and Josephine counties and has opened a branch in Ashland, the Murphy Motor Co., and will open a branch in Grants Pass in the near future. Thirty-six Dodge cars have been sold during the past year in Medford and a carload of five more was received Friday. LOCAL AND PERSONAL Dr. Rebec of the University of Oregon will give a lecture in the reading room of the Hotel Holland at 8 this evening. His subject will be, "The True Sources of Shakespeare's Power." Those who have heard Dr. Rebec speak before need no assurance of the pleasure in store for them, and all who attend will feel well repaid in hearing his scholarly and entertaining presentation of the subject. The lecture is given under the auspices of the local center of the Drama league. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited to attend. H. B. Patterson, the nurseryman of this city, has an old-time friend in Aledo, Illinois, who finds both profit and enjoyment in the business of raising skunks — sure enough polecats. He finds a ready sale for them at fancy prices. From Mr. Patterson's enthusiasm over the matter, his friends fear that he is willing to be enticed into the business here. H. B. denied the impeachment, however, declaring that he will never have any very intimate business with skunks until science shall have them deprived of their facilities for manufacturing perfume of that delicate and exquisite odor.
