Standoff ends peacefully An apparently suicidal Medford woman who discharged a pistol inside her residence was taken into custody Sunday morning after a standoff with police. Medford police Lt. Tim George said the incident began at 12:17 a.m. when a 41-year-old woman called 911 and then hung up. As officers arrived at the scene, 22 Corning Court, a firearm was discharged from inside. George reported that officers began negotiating the woman�s surrender. About 45 minutes later, the woman stepped outside with the gun in her hand, George said. Officers then fired beanbags at her but missed, George said, and the woman put the pistol in the residence and surrendered. She was taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center for a mental evaluation, then lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, menacing and disorderly conduct.
