GRANTS PASS — The Medford Mustangs won their third straight game over the Grants Pass Nuggets, 6-2 on Monday, behind solid pitching and hitting from Dylan Marsh in the Area 4 contest. Three Medford (24-8) pitchers scattered six hits to hold Grants Pass in check. Starter and winner Marsh — who also had the game’s big hit — allowed one hit over three innings, striking out one and walking three. He gave up one run, unearned. Brady Buchanan and Jack Thompson followed on the mound. Marsh hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to extend the Mustangs’ lead to 5-1. The shot to center field scored Wyatt Baptiste, who walked, and Buchanan, who singled. In a late game Sunday, Medford finished off a doubleheader sweep of the Nuggets with a 3-1 win. American Legion A SOUTH MEDFORD COLTS 6-6, NORTH MEDFORD MAVERICKS 4-13: Rijk Vanderhoff drove in three runs for host South Medford as it won the first game in the Area 4 doubleheader split with North Medford. Vanderhoff was 2-for-3 while both Matthew Shenk and Charle Campbell went 3-for-4 for the Colts. Campbell also earned the win on the mound. In the nightcap, Drew Grafton hit a three-run home run in the second inning as the Mavericks (16-11, 9-5 Area 4) seized control. Grafton was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs while Josh Baptiste finished 4-for-4 with a double and a triple with three runs. The Mavericks’ Jeremiah Huffman went 3-for-4 and crossed home plate three times, and Taven Passey went 2-for-4 with two runs and a pair or RBIs. Little League BEND NORTH 11, MEDFORD AMERICAN 1: At Gold Hill, Medford American’s offense struggled and they were eliminated from the 11-U state tournament in the loser’s bracket. Dom Daffron collected Medford’s lone hit, an RBI double in the sixth inning. Bend scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning.
