Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend January 25, 2006 Roupp helps Ashland down GP Prep Basketball GRANTS PASS — Jamie Roupp refused to let fifth-ranked Ashland lose in a key Southern Oregon Conference girls basketball matchup Tuesday. The 5-foot-9 senior guard scored all but one of Ashland’s second-half points as the Grizzlies held off Grants Pass 36-31 at Heater-Newman Memorial Gym. Ashland and Grants Pass (12-5, 5-2 SOC) were tied atop the SOC standings going into the contest. Ashland (17-1, 6-1 SOC) started quickly. The Grizzlies took an eight-point first-quarter lead and built a 24-14 halftime margin. But the Cavers opened the second half with a 6-0 run and eventually pulled even at 26-all about midway through the final period. Roupp responded by scoring the next five points. Of the Grizzlies’ 12 second-half points, Roupp accounted for 11. Advertisement "(Roupp) went on a rampage," Grants Pass coach Robert Lingo said. "She’s the type of player who can put the team on her back when she needs to." The Cavers were led by senior guard Courtney Cameron with 13 points. Cameron had a hot hand from the field on 6-of-9 shooting. "Courtney created some of her own shots," said Lingo, "and she plays great defense." Grants Pass outrebounded the Grizzlies, 21-15, but the Cavers committed 17 turnovers. "We made some poor decisions which Ashland forced us into," said Lingo. "They did a good job covering up the passing lanes." Veteran coach Ken Lathen, in his second year at Ashland, formerly coached both the Grants Pass boys and girls. "(Lathen) had fun coming back to the gym," said Lingo. "His girls played with a lot of class." ASHLAND (36) — Roupp 19, McDermott 5, McKinnis 5, Heater 4, Hasty 3, Thompson 0, Laipply 0.
