Comment By TV Guide MailTribune.com By TV Guide Posted Oct. 11, 2014 at 7:05 PM By TV Guide Posted Oct. 11, 2014 at 7:05 PM »  Social News No disrespect to Ben Affleck, but we think Netflix's Daredevil might be the best one ever. The cast gathered atSaturdayat New York Comic-Con to reveal the first (four!) clips from the anticipated series, which is only the first of five Marvel and Netflix collaborations. In addition to giving attendees an exclusive preview of this latest interpretation of Matt Murdock (and his alter-ego), stars Charlie Cox , Vincent D'Onofrio , Deborah Ann Woll and more revealed secrets from the show — including who exactly Rosario Dawson is playing! 1.The cast has practically doubled in size: Previously, the only known stars of Daredevil were Cox as Matt Murdock, Woll as Karen Page, D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, Elden Henson as Franklin "Foggy" Nelson and Dawson in a mystery role. But as Marvel's Jeph Loeb was happy to announce, the series has also added Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Marianna, the love of Fisk's life; Vondie Curtis Hall as the intrepid reporter Ben Urich: Bob Gunton as the sardonic supervillain Leland Owlsley; and Toby Leonard Moore as Wesley, Fisk's right-hand man. Fall TV Popularity Contest: Which new shows won you over? 2. Rosario Dawson is playing.... Claire Temple, "a nurse who works at night," as Loeb pragmatically described. Claire encounters Matt when she discovers him masked and unconscious in her dumpster. But rather than calling the cops, Claire brings him into her apartment and takes care of him. And #TheMoreYouKnow: In the comics, Claire Temple is ex-wife of Bill Foster (Goliath) and the romantic interest of Luke Cage, who also happens to be getting his own Netflix-Marvel series. So much cross-over potential! 3. It won't just focus on Matt's vigilante persona: While discussing one of his favorite Daredevil comics, Cox hinted that in addition to Matt's crime fighting, the series will also focus on his day job. "I think it's so great to read a Daredevil novel and be so thrilled by a courtroom scene in a graphic novel. I love that and we've got some stuff coming up that you guys might like that's related," Cox teased. 4. Daredevil will take advantage of Netflix's binge model: "Because there isn't a week in between, you have to spend less time reminding the audiences of what happened. And also ending an episode on a cliff-hanger is kind of fruitless," Cox said. "I think more than anything else it's going to feel like a 13 hour movie." Fall TV's hottest eye candy 5. It's going to be dark: Based on the clips, Daredevil feels far more similar to Arrow — minus the CW indie soundtrack and gratuitous shirtless men — than it does to S.H.I.E.L.D. And that's very much by design. As Cox explained, the character of Daredevil "does kind of suit a slightly older audience" and by airing the series on Netflix the writers didn't have to shy away from the darker themes. "My influences growing up were the Frank Miller run and the [Brian Michael Bendis] run and I think you'll really, really see that in the gritty, realistic tone of this show," showrunner Steve S. DeKnight said. 6. Wilson Fisk won't be your average antagonist: "Our Fisk, he's a child and he's a monster," D'Onofrio said. "Every move that he makes and everything that he does in our story comes from his foundation of morality inside himself." However, upon meeting Vanessa at her art gallery, Fisk will begin to get drawn "out of the shadows" a bit. 7. Expect major daddy issues: Ah, flashbacks to memories with a character's father. It's a classic trope and one that will live on in Daredevil . While discussing Matt's constant identity crisis between lawyer and vigilante, Cox revealed, "We see a bit off Matt's father and who Matt's father wanted him to be and I think that's something that plays on Matt's mind." And judging by one of the screened clips, which featured a battered, mid-fight Matt flashing back to his childhood, he might have underplayed how much Matt's dad still haunts him. 8. There aren't any heroes or villains in Daredevil : "It's just people making different choices," DeKnight said of his approach to the series. "It's a constant struggle for Matt Murdock and often times he crosses the line. And one of the questions we ask in this show is, 'How far will he go'?" DeKnight explained. "With Wilson Fisk on the flipside, when you hear the explanation of what he's doing and why he's doing it, I think you're going to say, 'You know what? That's not a bad idea. That's pretty good.' So there will be times on the show where you're not quite sure who to root for." 9. There is always the potential for Marvel crossovers: When asked whether Daredevil would ever acknowledge characters or organizations (like Hydra) from Marvel's other big television venture, S.H.I.E.L.D. , Loeb left the door conspicuously open. "I think, you know, it's all connected, man." Check out the first look at Daredevil 's costume below, inspired by Frank Miller and John Romita Jr.'s Daredevil: Man Without Fear .
