The 7-1 Mustangs, ranked No. 2 in the state coaches’ poll, were coming off a 52-50 loss to Del Norte at Crescent City, Calif., the night before. "We responded real well to the loss," said Hidden Valley coach Norm Hayter. "We stepped up and played real good ‘D’ in the second quarter." The Mustangs led by four after the opening period, then outscored the Pelicans (1-3) 18-7 in the second quarter to take command. Hidden Valley’s Cody Crowe, a 6-foot-6 junior post, led all scorers by tying his season high with 16 points, including two 3-pointers. "(Crowe) is the type of guy that can hit the 3-pointer," said Hayter. "That makes it tough on defenses because they have to extend."
