South girls aim to halt 5-year drought South Medford hasn't scored a girls basketball win over rival North Medford since the 1994-95 season. The Panthers could change that tonight when they play host to the Black Tornado in a 7 p.m. tip-off as Southern Oregon Conference play resumes following a two-plus week hiatus. South Medford coach Andrea Wegner was in her first year as an assistant to Jon Schnorenberg when the Panthers last defeated the Tornado. "I would think we would have a pretty good chance this time, at least on our home court," says Wegner, who is in her third year as head coach. "It shouldn't be hard to get up for this type of game." South enters with a 1-1 SOC record and is 5-5 overall, but hasn't played since Dec. 22. "I think we're the healthiest we've been," Wegner says. "We've basically got eight varsity kids, so we're lacking depth. But the girls got some rest and got to heal up." Senior post Lynn Wooton leads South with more than 17 points per game. After getting off to a 2-7 start, North has come on.
