She was born May 23, 1931 to John and Irene (Vargo) Tizekker in Cleveland, Ohio and was the eldest of three siblings. The family moved to Pennsylvania but finally settled in Medford, Ore. where Virginia graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1949. She married William Edward Young in 1952, and together they raised two sons in the Seattle area where her husband, Bill, worked as a Boeing engineer. After retirement in 1986, the couple moved back to their childhood hometown of Medford where they cared for Virginia’s mother and had many happy years reuniting with friends and hosting family gatherings. As a young adult she picked pears in the local Medford-area fields and later became a secretary for the Teamsters Union. After marriage and a move to Seattle, she took her responsibility as mother seriously, staying home to care for her two sons. She enjoyed being the neighborhood “driver” for the boys and their friends when they were small, and when they became teenagers, their friends could often be found over at the Young’s house playing pool and being fed ample snacks by their second “mom.” Virginia and Bill loved to camp in their RV and spent many years traveling with their boys whenever possible. These trips always had a purpose which included anything from salmon fishing, digging razor clams, crabbing on the Washington coast, duck hunting in Oregon, or trout fishing plus picking huckleberries around Mt. St. Helen’s. Their annual Memorial Day trip to eastern Washington, to escape the Seattle rain, was a favorite. She was thrilled to become a grandmother and was blessed with seven grandchildren whom she loved spoiling with lots of love and presents whenever possible. Virginia loved to shop, so having an ever-growing family for whom she constantly purchased gifts, made her very happy. The expanding family also provided great opportunities for her to use her favorite Polaroid camera. Virginia loved her family and will be missed. Virginia is survived by her husband, William E. Young of Auburn, Wash.; her brother, James Tizekker (Iverne “Ivy”) of Vancouver, Wash.; her sister, Margaret “Cookie” D’Amato of Las Vegas, Nev.; her son, William W. Young (Karen) of Federal Way, Wash.; her son, John Young (Diedre) of Pine Bluff, Ark.; her grandchildren, Jennie (Gary), Emily (deceased), Jesse, Daniel, Liz (Scott), David, and Rebekah; her great-granddaughter, Evelyn; and many beloved nieces and nephews and their respective children. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 16, 2015 at Piper Morley Funeral Home in Tacoma, Wash. A graveside service will be held later, at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford, Ore.
