RAIDER REPORT Raiders try to keep pace in Washington Comment By SOU Sports Information MailTribune.com By SOU Sports Information Posted Feb. 5, 2015 @ 5:45 pm Updated Feb 5, 2015 at 5:46 PM By SOU Sports Information Posted Feb. 5, 2015 @ 5:45 pm Updated Feb 5, 2015 at 5:46 PM » Social News ASHLAND — The Southern Oregon University women's basketball team is hoping little has changed in four weeks. That's how long it's been since the 13th-ranked Raiders knocked around Northwest University and Evergreen State, 110-74 and 77-56, at Riehm Arena. SOU (19-3, 10-3 Cascade Conference) will take its last road trip of the regular season in an attempt to sweep those Washington schools, meeting the Eagles (11-12, 3-9) today and the Geoducks (12-7, 6-6) on Saturday. Both games tip off at 5:30 p.m. SOU remained one game back of Eastern Oregon for first place after home wins over Corban (74-64) and Northwest Christian (84-53) last weekend. Another victory would give the Raiders 20 for the third straight season. Rankings : SOU stayed at No. 13 in this week's NAIA Division II coaches' poll, jumped only by Oklahoma Wesleyan, which went from 14th to 12th. Eastern Oregon, at No. 13, is the only other CCC team in the rankings and no one else received votes. Morningside (Iowa), which has a record of 24-0, received all 14 first-place vote. Second-ranked Davenport (Mich.) is the only other undefeated team remaining at 22-0. SOU was No. 21 in the preseason poll but has been between 13 and 16 in all seven regular-season polls. The final at-large bid to last year's NAIA tournament went the team with the 30th-most votes, Roosevelt (Ill.). Quick hits: — SOU remains among the NAIA leaders in several statistical categories: No. 1 in field-goal percentage (47.9), No. 3 in rebounding margin (12.1), No. 3 in assists (19.0), No. 4 in total rebounds (48.3), No. 4 in 3-point percentage (37.4), No. 5 in scoring (84.6), No. 5 in scoring margin (plus-19.5) and No. 12 in blocks (4.7). — Ashley Claussen’s hot streak from downtown continued last weekend as she went 6-for-12. She's now made at least one 3-pointer in 14 straight games and multiple in eight straight (going 27-for-53 in that span). In conference play she ranks fifth in scoring (13.8) and first in assists (5.6). — SOU has still out-rebounded its opponents every game after holding a 106-76 advantage last weekend. — Northwest Christian's 27.1-percent showing from the field (19-for-70) was the lowest for an SOU conference opponent since Oregon Tech shot 22.4 percent on Jan. 15, 2011. The second-lowest since then was Corban's 27.8 on Jan. 3. Opponents are shooting 35.6 percent overall against the Raiders this season, down four percent from last season. — Courtney West’s double-double on Saturday (10 points, 10 rebounds) was her fifth of the season, all off the bench. — Autumn Durand's steady work continued with 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds last week. In conference play she ranks 10th in scoring (12.2), 14th in rebounding (5.9), 14th in blocks (0.6), 10th in field-goal percentage (46.2) and 11th in free-throw percentage (77.8). Men’s Basketball SOU TAKES TO ROAD : Despite its first home loss of the season last weekend at the hands of Northwest Christian, the 17th-ranked Southern Oregon men's basketball still has plenty of chances left to take care of business. The Raiders (19-5, 9-4 Cascade Conference) have five conference games remaining, including two on the road — today and Saturday in Washington against Northwest University (13-11, 3-9) and Evergreen State (3-16, 0-12). They'll wrap up with consecutive home games against Oregon Tech on Feb. 14, 12th-ranked Concordia on Feb. 20, and 16th-ranked Warner Pacific on Feb. 21. Concordia and Warner Pacific, along with fifth-ranked College of Idaho, are just one game ahead of SOU in the loss column atop the standings. Last weekend, SOU dodged a bullet with a 70-65 double-overtime win over Corban before losing to NCU, 80-69. Rankings : The split cost the Raiders five spots in the NAIA Division II coaches' poll, No. 12 to 17, the biggest drop of anyone still standing. Warner Pacific, which was the only top-five CCC team that didn't split last weekend, made the poll's biggest jump (four spots) to No. 16. College of Idaho and Concordia dropped slightly, while Indiana Wesleyan was No. 1 for the ninth straight poll. SOU was No. 17 in the preseason and has peaked at No. 10. Last season the Raiders marked the cutoff for NAIA tournament at-large bids, getting left out at No. 26 in the final poll. Quick hits: — Jordan West 's 20-point, 10-rebound performance against Corban was the second double-double of his career (and the second in the last three weeks). He's scored in double figures 14 straight games, shooting over 50 percent in all but one of those. He ranks ninth in CCC play at 14.9 points per game, 19th at 5.4 rebounds and third at 60.4-percent shooting. — Tim Weber regained the NAIA lead in assists per game (7.6) after averaging 14.5 points, eight assists and six rebounds over the weekend. He's dished out eight or more assists in 12 games this season after doing it three times last season. — Ben DeSaulnier leads all reserves in CCC play at 11.5 points per game. He also ranks eighth overall in field-goal percentage (56.6) and first in free-throw percentage (88.4). — SOU is 4-0 in overtime this season, marking the most OT wins in program history. Over the past 10 seasons the Raiders had gone 8-14 in games that required an extra session.
