CRIME SPREE Subway robbery suspect arrested in Gold Beach Police believe he robbed Subways in three cities, including Medford By Nick Morgan Mail Tribune Follow @@mtcrimebeat MailTribune.com By Nick Morgan Mail Tribune Follow @@mtcrimebeat Posted Mar. 22, 2016 @ 12:44 pm Updated Mar 22, 2016 at 5:20 PM By Nick Morgan Mail Tribune Follow @@mtcrimebeat Posted Mar. 22, 2016 @ 12:44 pm Updated Mar 22, 2016 at 5:20 PM » Social News p bs:newslist StartDate="20121121" EndDate="p bs:datecalc Months="3"" DateSort="1" UseObjects="1" ObjectClass="81" Taxonomywords="2325,665" ExactTaxonomyMatch="1" Image="1" Count="4" --> A Grants Pass man arrested Monday night on charges he robbed a Brookings Subway restaurant is believed to have committed the same crime at a Medford Subway earlier that day, according to police. Alexander Mathew White, 23, allegedly brandished a silver-colored handgun and took cash from the register at the Brookings Subway at 8:15 p.m. Monday, Curry County police said. A Medford Subway at 1250 Crater Lake Ave. had been robbed about six hours earlier by a man with a silver handgun. In both robberies, the suspect wore brown boots, a dark bandana, jeans and a dark, hooded jacket, police said. White was arrested at 11:30 p.m. at Motel 6 in Gold Beach after police found a car there linked to White, according to a Grants Pass police news release. White is also suspected of two armed robberies in Grants Pass involving a handgun — at a Subway on March 8 and at a Papa Murphy's on March 17, the release said. Because the robberies were similar, police in Grants Pass, Medford and Brookings shared information on their cases. Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said Grants Pass police did the majority of the work tracking down White and called his capture a "lucky break" for Medford. "We didn't even have to leave our desks once he was identified," Budreau said. Grants Pass detectives had received an anonymous tip that White may have been responsible for the March 8 robbery. “We strongly suspected our case and a Grants Pass case were similar,” Budreau said. “They had already developed probable cause to arrest him.” Budreau wouldn't release the amount of money White allegedly took from the Medford Subway Monday, but he said it wasn't enough to sustain a drug habit. “Our take was low ... it was really no surprise that he’d rob again,” Budreau said. Charges have not yet been filed in Josephine or Jackson counties. Budreau said there may be a delay prosecuting White here because his crimes span multiple counties, and because White is being held in Curry County Jail on Measure 11 charges and won't be released anytime soon. "We're probably third in line because Josephine County wants him, too," Budreau said. Grants Pass police anticipate charges of first-degree robbery related to the two Grants Pass crimes. White faces a felony first-degree robbery charge in Curry County and remained in the jail Tuesday on $260,000 bail, according to jail records.
