The performance will be repeated from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, in an area outside Goodness Glorious restaurant, 221 SW G St., Grants Pass. The performances focus on Taiwanese aborigines' culture through song and dance, performed in native dress. Fifteen Taiwanese residents from different tribes on the island perform and lead the tour. The island is the principal land mass for the Republic of China, which sits off the coast of mainland China. Taiwan contains numerous aboriginal tribes, which were the predominant populations on the island until a major Han immigration that began in the 17th century. Aborigine groups are working to reduce the economic and social barriers that now exist on the island, where tribe members make up 2.3 percent of the population. The tour through the western states includes stops in Dallas, Houston, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. The group is also visiting native American reservations and participating in discussions related to protecting and preserving aboriginal cultures.
