Police say 33-year-old Andre Bilodeau made off with a $1,600 laptop computer and $400 in tools on Oct. 12. All his actions were recorded by a nearby surveillance camera, making it easy for police to identify Bilodeau as their man, said Lt. Mike Budreau. "Numerous officers were able to identify him from that video because we've had a lot of contact with him," Budreau said . Bilodeau is one of two men who allegedly broke into a part of the surgery center that is under construction. The laptop, a Dell 6800 Precision Works System computer, has not been recovered, nor have drill tips, bits and sockets snatched from the scene in a duffel bag. The camera is not part of Medford police's new voluntary surveillance network, Surveillance Camera Registration And Mapping, or S.C.R.A.M. Kicked off two weeks ago, the program invites business and homeowners to register their camera with the department, which may call on them to look at their footage if there is a crime nearby. Either way, Budreau said the quality of modern surveillance systems is frequently a big help to law enforcement if unwitting suspects step into the frame. "It's just another example of how valuable video surveillance can be. Here we were able to make an identification off of video alone," Budreau said. Court records show Bilodeau has been wanted on a warrant since July 27 for failure to appear on charges of methamphetamine and heroin possession. He has no additional felony criminal history in Jackson County, records show. Anyone with information on Bilodeau's whereabouts is asked to contact Medford police at 541-770-4784.
