Biennial survey will track food economy Local farmers and growers are invited to participate in a biennial survey of Rogue Valley agricultural producers in support of Rogue Valley Food System Network's efforts to connect and support the local food economy. "If we intend to effectively communicate the value of our rich and diverse agricultural economy, we need solid data from our growers," said Southern Oregon University assistant professor Vince Smith, who is leading the survey. The first Grower Economic Assessment in 2013 reported gross farm sales of more than $86 million. The assessment also surveys sales by product type and sales by enterprise, such as farmers markets or wholesale. The national USDA Agricultural Census, conducted every five years, does not specifically address the extent to which food production is marketed and sold locally or regionally. Rogue Valley Food System Network is a group of individuals, organizations and businesses that have combined efforts to strengthen local food production and distribution. "This survey is an unbiased way of assessing the impact of our work," said Thrive Executive Director Wendy Siporen. The survey is available at https://sou.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_eg33vwWll1gH2W9 or http://tinyurl.com/gnj7bkl All responses are kept anonymous. A paper version of the survey is also available by emailing your mailing address to [email protected] .
