Lumberjacks top Raiders By KRIS HENRY ARCATA, Calif. -- Southern Oregon continued its fall down the Columbia Football Association ladder Saturday, falling for the fourth straight week thanks to a gritty Humboldt State squad. The Lumberjacks held Southern Oregon in check for a 16-0 victory, forcing six Raider turnovers to improve to 4-6 overall and 3-1 in the CFA. Southern Oregon (3-6, 1-3 CFA) actually posted the most impressive numbers on the day, only to have those go for naught thanks to the six turnovers. Griff Yates paced Southern Oregon's rushing attack with 102 yards on 15 carries, with Casey Jackson adding 41 yards on 10 carries. Yates missed most of the action in the second quarter after a hit by Pa'apa'a Pepe forced a mild concussion, as well as a fumble. Quarterback Dan Walters broke through with a solid effort, completing 24 of 37 passes for 223 yards. Toby Taylor hauled in eight of those passes for 122 yards on the day, with Mike Long catching seven passes for 56 yards. The Lumberjacks scored six minutes into the first quarter as quarterback Travis Mari bulled into the end zone from 1-yard out. Humboldt State added a 36-yard field goal from Mike Spitzer and a 37-yard pass from Mari to Ryan Kinser in the second quarter to cap the scoring.
