He was 58. Macomber died on Saturday in Jakarta, Indonesia, according to an e-mail from his daughter, Tina Marie Macomber. She indicated that a wake would be held for him in Jakarta, followed by a memorial service in the United States. Details were not available Tuesday. His death was the result of a long battle with lung cancer. In Jakarta, Macomber was working for the English language Tatler magazine as a writer and editor until last month. He had worked as a journalist in Jackson and Josephine counties for a quarter of a century. Advertisement Born in Auburn, Wash., he attended public schools in Portland, Spokane and Seattle. In 1971, he graduated from Washington State University with a bachelor’s degree in communications. He began working for the Grants Pass Daily Courier newspaper in 1972 as a reporter and photographer. In 1979, he was named that paper’s city editor. He was appointed the managing editor of the Daily Courier in 1984, a position he held for two years. He became a copy editor at the Mail Tribune in 1986, then was appointed the paper’s business editor. He left the Mail Tribune in 1998. During his career, he also worked as news editor of the East Side Journal in Kirkland, Wash., and was a reporter for the Times in Hammond, Ind., an industrial suburb of Chicago. Survivors include two adult daughters, Tina Marie Macomber and Lisa Macomber.
