GRANTS PASS Teenage girl burned in explosion; hash oil suspected Comment By Jeff Duewel Grants Pass Daily Courier MailTribune.com By Jeff Duewel Grants Pass Daily Courier Posted Feb. 16, 2016 at 3:08 PM By Jeff Duewel Grants Pass Daily Courier Posted Feb. 16, 2016 at 3:08 PM » RELATED CONTENT • Explosive extract » Social News An explosion Sunday night that injured four people in a fifth-wheel trailer at a trailer park near the Caveman Bridge was possibly caused by hash oil, Grants Pass police say. Neighbors on Monday told the Grants Pass Daily Courier they heard an explosion just before 8 p.m. and saw a teenage girl on fire, coming out of the trailer at the Royal Trailer Park, located on the south side of the Rogue River on Lewis Avenue. Keith Proctor, who lives two trailers down, said a man named Brian, his daughter and her boyfriend were at the trailer. Proctor heard the explosion, went outside and saw the teen girl come out on fire. "She looked like a ball of fire. Four or five people tried to get her on the ground," Proctor said. After the bystanders got the flames out, she was loaded into an ambulance. A woman who lives right next door had a similar story, but her version included more than one explosion. She said she grabbed a fire extinguisher to help. "I heard this hideous bang, then some god-awful screaming," said the woman, who wished to be anonymous. "I saw her standing in the doorway in flames. It was awful. The poor girl started running around in circles." An adjacent fifth-wheel trailer was also destroyed in the blaze, leaving two adults and three children no place to live. The American Red Cross assisted the family. "They're ruined," Proctor said. A news release from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety said four people went to Asante Three Rivers Medical Center. It didn't list names, and without names patient conditions are unavailable from hospitals because of privacy laws. The owner of the property also had no names to release. According to Proctor, in addition to the seriously injured teenager, her boyfriend, and the man named Brian, another woman lived at the fifth-wheel in space 48. She was doing laundry away from the trailer and suffered smoke inhalation when she came back and tried to get her dog. The small dog was found between two mattresses unharmed, according to Grants Pass police. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Lt. Todd Moran said today that detectives are exploring the possibility that people at the trailer were manufacturing BHO, or butane honey oil, extracted from marijuana.
