Cascade Christian closing in on playoff berth WHITE CITY Cascade Christian moved a step closer to its first-ever state playoff berth with a 20-8 Southern Cascade League victory over Bonanza Friday at the V.A. Domiciliary. The Challengers, who have been playing football since 1991, need to win one of their remaining two games at Chiloquin or at home against league power Lost River to advance to the Class 2A state playoffs. They are 3-0 in league and 4-3 overall, and another win would give them only their third winning regular season. Cascade Christian utilized a potent running attack and took advantage of a couple of the myriad of fumbles on the rain-drenched field to overtake the Antlers. Brian Prins ran for 84 yards on 17 carries and scored twice, and Jordan Ferrell added 79 yards rushing on 11 tries. Prins scored the Challengers first touchdown just a minute into the game after Ferrell broke free on a 65-yard romp to the 3-yard line. Prins took it in from there. Later in the period, with Bonanza pinned back at its own 3, Cascade Christians Justin McCord burst into the backfield, broke up a handoff and recovered the fumble for a touchdown, making it 14-0. The score didnt change until 1 minutes were left in the third period, when Prins scored on a dash from the 10. The touchdown followed a series of fumbles by each team that put the Challengers deep in Antler territory. Bonanza, playing without star running back Brad Hadley, scored with just under five minutes remaining. Hadley, who had rushed for more than 900 yards, suffered a broken arm in the Antlers 26-0 loss to Lost River last week. Cascades defensive effort was led by linebacker Bryan Edwards and end Nolan Roberts.
