Missing snowboarder found safe Sunday Mar 18, 2018 at 8:11 PM Mar 18, 2018 at 8:11 PM Local report A snowboarder who went missing on Mount Ashland Saturday evening was found safe after a three-hour search, a release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said. Eric Hostetler, 40, of Bend, was supposed to return after snowboarding away from the Mount Ashland parking lot, his wife said. She reported him missing to ski patrol at 6 p.m. Ski patrol members found Hostetler at 9 p.m. after following his tracks through the Cottonwood Creek drainage, the release said. A search and rescue unit intercepted the ski patrol members and Holsteter on U.S. Forest Service Road 40 S06 and transported back to the resort. “SAR officials urge skiers and snowboarders to refrain from going outside the boundaries of the ski area,” the release said. “Out-of-bounds activity is additionally dangerous at the end of the day when darkness and cold can affect both survival and search efforts.”
