In fall of 2014, 23-year-old Casey Nocket of San Diego painted a woman's face on a rock just off the Mount Scott trail. Nocket pleaded guilty Monday to defacing government property. Park public information officer Jennifer Evans said the trail leads to the highest point in the park and is still not accessible because of snow. She added the heavy snowfall and rain at the spot might have already started to remove the graffiti. "That acrylic paint probably didn't withstand it very well," Evans said. "We do have very harsh winters, and that's the highest point in the park." Nocket defaced rocks at seven national parks, including Crater Lake, Yosemite, Zion, Death Valley and Rocky Mountain, according to the Associated Press . Nocket posted pictures of her work on her Instagram and Tumblr social-media accounts, which led to a public outcry. After she pleaded guilty to seven misdemeanors in federal court Monday, she was sentenced to two years of probation and 200 hours of community service. Crater Lake and Death Valley still haven't removed the graffiti. Evans said the park was not able to get to the graffiti during the summer of 2015 because of staffing levels and a high visitor count in the park. "It wasn't at the top of the priority list," she said. The AP reported removal procedures at other parks have included sandblasting and chemical stripping, which can cause additional damage.
