Scott, general passenger agent of the Southern Pacific railway, arrived Sunday from San Francisco where he was summoned to attend a conference on changing the time schedule of trains. He will spend a couple of days in the valley visiting Ashland Monday. Mrs. Scott arrived from Portland Monday to accompany him home. Speaking of train changes, he said: "I was summoned from Marshfield where I made the first trip over the new line from Eugene, which will not be completed for some weeks and had to make a rough ocean voyage. Business is picking up all over the country, including the Southern Pacific's and we will leave all passenger trains but change the time of the southbound No. 53, the "exposition special." This train will arrive at Medford at 10:30 p.m instead of 2:15 a.m., thus giving an evening train from Grants Pass and a daylight ride from Portland." Mr. Scott predicts lively times in Southern Oregon the coming year and is much enthused over the prospect of beet sugar factories, mines and timber activities. ASHLAND AND VICINITY D.M. Lowe, horticultural and agricultural wizard, has received further publicity notice, this time through the column of the Sunset magazine. The article, which is a brief and pithy one is from the pen of Owen Baruhill of this city and is accompanied by a fine portrait of Mr. Lowe as taken by Studio Ashland. "Like father like son," also applies to Lowe's son Donnie, who is described as being a "chip off the old block." The Pacific's new telephone directory issued for February, has just been placed in the hnds of subscribers. The circulation here approximates 1,00 copies. The booklet was gotten out by the Medford Printing Co. The Butler-Perozzi fountain has arrived from San Francisco and awaits the arrival of an expert who will install it at a place already fixed in Lithia park. It is an ornate affair and was one of the masterpieces among the Italian exhibits at the Panatan exposition. It weighs 12,000 pounds and comes "knocked down" in about a dozen parts. The statue of Lincoln, which is Mr. Butler's personal tribute to the memory of his stepfather, Jacob Thompson, will arrive from San Francisco next month.
