Don Carroll, now 88, retired to the Rogue Valley in 1992, where he lives three miles outside of Shady Cove. He remains among the youngest World War II veterans, a point driven home earlier this month when he participated in the Honor Flight of Oregon, visiting Washington D.C. Of the 28 Oregonian WWII veterans — 15 wheelchair bound — making the trip, he said, "One person was 95, two three 94, a few more 93 and only one other was less than 90."
