The Crusaders rallied from a pair of double-digit deficits to tie the contest late and send the game to overtime, but Bonanza used an 8-0 scoring advantage in the OT to pull out a 50-42 victory at the St. Mary's gym. "We played very poorly in the overtime," said St. Mary's coach Rick Jackson. "We turned the ball over on our first four possessions. After that it was over. "We dug ourselves so many holes it just seemed like we didn't have the energy in the overtime." Kyle Gomez led the Antlers (17-3, 6-1 SCL) with 30 points, including an 11-point outburst in the third quarter that helped Bonanza maintain its lead. Advertisement "(Gomez) had to shoot the ball a lot to get his 30," said Jackson. "We knew he'd get his. Our strategy was to hold down the rest of the guys." That strategy worked as Bonanza's second-leading scorer Andy Davis managed just six points. Even with Davis in check, the Antlers led 16-4 early in the second quarter and, after St. Mary's trimmed the lead to three at the half, pushed the advantage to 14 points with 51/2 minutes to play in the third quarter. The Crusaders slowly nibbled away at their deficit. In the fourth quarter, Nick Terry hit a 3-pointer to cut Bonanza's lead to five, Max O'Sullivan converted a three-point play and Jacob Midtlyng scored on a putback to even the game with just over two minutes left. St. Mary's had the final shot but missed on an open look at the end of regulation. Chris Sutton led the Crusaders with 10 points, while Terry and O'Sullivan each added eight points and Midtlyng had six boards.
