North blows away Klamath Union KLAMATH FALLS � With two of its most important Southern Oregon Conference football games coming up in the next two weeks, North Medford didn�t overlook Klamath Union Friday. The third-ranked Black Tornado scored early and often in pounding the Pelicans 64-6 at Modoc Field. The 64 points set a North Medford scoring record, eclipsing the 61 the Black Tornado scored last year against Klamath Union at Spiegelberg Stadium. North (7-0, 5-0 SOC) took the opening kickoff and scored, something it has done six times in seven games. The Black Tornado drive covered 74 yards in 10 plays, capped by a Kevin Foreman�s 22-yard touchdown pass to Mike Olson with 9:12 to go. Klamath Union was forced to punt after three plays, and it only took North three plays to score from 58 yards away. This time, fullback Curt Stout went the final 52 yards with 7:30 left in the opening period. Stout tacked on a 2-yard touchdown run as North ended the first quarter with a 22-0 lead. The Black Tornado went to a little trickery to score with 30 seconds left in the first half when Foreman passed backwards to Mike Olson, who found Travis Poulton with a 51-yard scoring strike. The score made it 36-6 at halftime. Phil Ouellette got into the scoring act for North early in the third quarter. Klamath Union was stopped on three plays on its first series and North capitalized on a short punt. Ouellette went 41 yards to the KU 1 on the first play from scrimmage, then scored on the next play. GRANTS PASS 14, BEND 13 � At Bend, the Cavemen stunned Bend with a 14-0 halftime lead and then held on thanks to a blocked extra-point attempt in the fourth quarter to secure the non-league victory. Brandon Hamada rushed 12 times for 45 yards, including an 8-yard TD run that gave Grants Pass an early 7-0 lead. Parker Lane hauled in an 8-yard pass from Nathan Olson to make it 14-0 late in the second quarter. Bend�s Mike Rundle lived up to expectations with 251 yards rushing on 33 carries, but his Lava Bears couldn�t get over the hump thanks to a pesky Caver defense. Grants Pass and Bend each moved to 5-2 on the season. CHURCHILL 50, EAGLE POINT 21 � At Eugene, Niles Mittasch rushed 21 times for 196 yards and six touchdowns as No. 9 Churchill thundered to a non-conference victory. Mittasch scored on runs of 55, 6, 3, 2, 5 and 2 yards in the first three quarters as Churchill built a 50-7 advantage. The Lancers led 6-0 after one quarter, then exploded for 30 points in the second period, capped by Adrian Pogi�s 35-yard interception return. Eagle Point got on the board in the third period when Bryant Schauffler scooped up a Churchill fumble and returned it 12 yards to paydirt.
