Oregon's jobless rate has risen as workers join the labor force in greater numbers than employers create jobs. The state Employment Department reported Tuesday that as a result, the state employment rate rose last month to 7.2 percent. It was 6.9 percent in July. The numbers are seasonally adjusted. The department reported that labor force rose about 8,350. That reflects people moving to Oregon as well as Oregonians joining, or rejoining, the search for work. But a survey of employers shows that fewer jobs were added in August — about 2,900. Even so, the department says that represents steady growth, job increases in 12 of the last 14 months. The agency says Oregon is 127,000 jobs above the low in the recession and 20,000 jobs short of the pre-recession peak. — Associated Press http://www.mailtribune.com/article/20140916/NEWS/140919750 © 2015 Copyright © 1995-2011 Crain Communications Inc.
