Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend November 27, 2004 Medford pair face multiple counts in gunpoint robbery By JACK MORAN Mail Tribune Two people were arraigned Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court on charges that they committed an armed robbery earlier this week at an east Medford home. Melissa Dawn Wright, 24, and Cody Rafe Harrah, 19, both of Medford, face charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree robbery and second-degree kidnap in connection with a Tuesday evening incident at a home in the 3000 block of Edmond Way. Both are being held in the Jackson County Jail on $1 million bail, court records show. Wright’s sister, Shontae Diedre Wright, 21, of Medford, was cited by Medford police on robbery, kidnap and burglary charges. She was not immediately jailed, but formal charges are expected to be filed after review by the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office, said Medford police Sgt. Tim Doney. Officers went to the Edmond Way home at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday after a female resident in her 70s reported being robbed there, Doney said. The victim told investigators a man whom she had allowed into her home to use the telephone pulled a handgun on her and fled after stealing her purse and phone. Advertisement After the robbery, the woman ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911, police said. Several Edmond Way residents told police they saw two women standing in the victim’s yard at about the same time the robbery occurred. Doney said police believe they were Melissa and Shontae Wright. Detectives caught up with the Wright sisters late Wednesday at a home in the 500 block of Hamilton Street, and were able to obtain enough information from them to later arrest Harrah at his workplace in the 2900 block of Crater Lake Highway, Doney said. The victim’s purse and jewelry were found Wednesday night in a storm drain near North Medford High School, police said. Before contacting the Wrights, police learned from the victim’s relatives that she knew the sisters. Police believe Melissa Wright was familiar with the layout of the Edmond Way home because of a previous visit to the residence, Doney said. Second-degree kidnap and second-degree robbery each carry mandatory minimum prison sentences of five years, 10 months upon conviction, according to state sentencing guidelines. Melissa Wright faces unrelated charges of unlawful use of a vehicle, first-degree criminal mischief and telephonic harassment.
