South picks up first SOC win EAGLE POINT - Junior middle Jessica Rickman slammed seven kills, registered seven blocks and committed just one hitting error to help the South Medford girls volleyball team to its first Southern Oregon Conference victory. "I think we got a little overconfident after the first game," said Eagle Point coach Lisa Hutchins. "It was a great match. It was back-and-forth the whole way. It took forever to play." Eagle Point outside hitter Dani Rouhier posted a match-high 18 kills, while Kara Stuart had 10 kills and junior defensive specialist Michelle Canale had a strong outing. The Eagles had 4-0 and 6-2 leads in Game 3 before the Panthers tied it at 6-6. It was nip-and-tuck the rest of the way. South senior setter Amanda Blair came off the bench after Game 1 to lead the comeback. "Amanda Blair set two really terrific games for us," Panthers coach Jerry Hagstrom said. "She had 16 assists in Game 2 and 15 in Game 3. That's exceptional." South was aided by stellar performances from senior outside hitters Amanda Cox (13 kills) and Megan Shanahan (11 kills, including the match-winner). Junior middle Jennie Brennan added seven kills and junior swing hitter Natasha Wright had seven digs for the Panthers. Seniors Katie Kahn and Taylor Jones combined for 17 kills for the Indians. Roseburg improved to 4-0 in SOC play, while Crater dropped to 1-2. GRANTS PASS 15-15, KLAMATH UNION 8-11 - At Klamath Falls, senior Ally Codington had eight kills and 11 digs to lead Grants Pass to a SOC victory. Senior Kathy Richard and junior Ashley Bellum combined for 14 kills and 17 digs for the Cavers. Grants Pass improved to 2-2 while the Pelicans fell to 0-3 in SOC play.
