Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend January 25, 2006 Harthun, Singler fuel South to rout of Roseburg ROSEBURG — Playing its third game in five days, the South Medford High boys basketball team wasn’t at its best Tuesday night at Stewart Robertson Memorial Gym. But the top-ranked Panthers were plenty good enough. Junior forward Kyle Singler pumped in 30 points and sophomore guard Michael Harthun added 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field as the Panthers romped to a 95-64 victory over Roseburg. Roseburg led 10-8 midway through the first period. But then the visiting Panthers went on a 27-2 run. South Medford led 49-24 at halftime. "We were forcing turnovers and getting down the floor for easy baskets," said South Medford coach Dennis Murphy, whose team moved to 15-1 overall and 6-0 in the Southern Oregon Conference with the victory. "We didn’t defend quite as tough as we usually do, but it was our third game in five days and so you can’t complain." Advertisement Harthun made five 3-point baskets and he sank all four of his shots in the second half. He also handed out eight assists. "Singler and Harthun both had very good performances," Murphy said. "They shot the ball well and just did a lot of good things." Singler blocked three shots and collected three rebounds to augment his 30 points. Senior forward Kendall Gielow and senior shooting guard Myles Daley added nine points for South and freshman reserve post E.J. Singler chipped in eight. The Panthers registered 23 assists on 37 field goals, a ratio of 62 percent. "We’ve been an unselfish team all season and tonight was no exception," Murphy said. Junior wing Jordan Snook led Roseburg (9-7, 3-3 SOC) with 19 points. Senior post Eric Thompson, who entered the contest as the state’s second-leading scorer at 25.3 points per game, finished with 17, but only two in the first half. "They’re one of the most explosive high school teams I’ve ever seen," Roseburg coach Mike Pardon said of the Panthers. "We’re ahead 10-8 and within what seemed like seconds they’re ahead 23-10." "They have a good player, a (future) college player, at every position," Pardon added. "They shoot it well but what’s really daunting is their size. It’s virtually impossible to keep them off the boards." SOUTH MEDFORD (95) — K. Singler 30, Stanek 0, Harthun 24, Anderson 3, Desimone 2, E.J. Singler 8, Grimes 4, Johnson 6, Gielow 9, Daley 9.
