Torres shines for Bulldog boxers Javier Torres of Medford's Bulldog Boxing Club advanced into the semifinals of the National Junior Golden Gloves Championships with a victory Thursday at the Texas Station Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Torres registered a three-round decision against Anthony Mercado of Los Angeles in the 13-14-year-old, 125-pound classification. Mercado, a past national Junior Golden Gloves champion, defeated Torres two years ago in this competition. "Javier just outworked him," said Bulldog trainer Jim Pedrojetti. "He kept the pressure on him the whole time." Torres will box in today's semifinals. Another Bulldog boxer, Junior Rios, was scheduled for this event, but an injury at a boxing camp caused him to drop out of the 15-16-year-old, 125-pound class. Harmon takes first in bowling tournament KLAMATH FALLS - Medford's Steve Harmon won first place in Division 3 singles at the Oregon State Bowling Association Tournament here recently. Harmon rolled games of 228, 255 and 268 for a 751 series. He carries a 177 average.
