Hornets fly past Phoenix KLAMATH FALLS -- Henley was 46 out of 47 serving and Bree Maupin had 17 assists to lead the Hornets to a 15-6, 15-5 win over Phoenix in a Skyline Conference volleyball match Tuesday night. "We served well and we served tough," said Henley coach Chuck Shannon. "We weren't just serving free balls to them. I was very happy with that." Sam Young had seven kills and Crystal Young six for Henley. Phoenix was 100 percent serving in the match, but the Pirates couldn't match Henley's frontline play. "We weren't able to muster any offense," Phoenix coach Tom Murphy said. "They picked up everything we sent over and sent it back twice as hard. We probably didn't have four kills the whole night." MAZAMA 15-15, HIDDEN VALLEY 2-2 -- At Klamath Falls, Ashley Markus of Mazama served for seven points and had three aces. Kathey Hunt led Mazama with five kills. The Vikings are 1-2 in Skyline Conference play. ROGUE RIVER 15-15, NORTH VALLEY 12-4 -- At Merlin, North Valley had trouble with its serve receive against aggressive Rogue River. Cheryl Jiles got the Chieftains off to a quick start by serving five straight points to open Game 1. In the second game, Jiles and Katie Glasscock each had runs of seven straight points at the service line. For North Valley, Amanda Renius delivered four aces, sophomore middle Whitney Costen had four blocks and Charlotte Beck came up with six digs. LAKEVIEW 15-15, ILLINOIS VALLEY 7-6 -- At Cave Junction, Illinois Valley played scrappy defense, but the Cougars couldn't match visiting Lakeview's net play and had difficulty handling the Honkers' serving. Emily Hoskins led Illinois Valley in hitting. BUTTE FALLS 15-15, PROSPECT 13-9 -- At Butte Falls, Jessica Dunlap served 10 points in the second game as the Loggers improved to 2-0 in the Skyline A League Southern Division. Dunlap, who had three aces, staked the Loggers to a 5-0 advantage. After Prospect pulled to within 10-9, she served out the match. Elizabeth McLauchlan paced Butte Falls with five kills. Sara Lawrence tallied 12 digs. Prospect led 12-7 and 13-11 in the first game. McLauchlan served up points 13 and 14 and Wendy McClelland delivered the final point. Prospect slipped to 1-2 in league.
