LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Letters to the Editor, Sept. 11 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Sep. 11, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Sep. 11, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Is U.S. to blame? Anyone else the least bit concerned about what is going on with the Middle East and Europe? Refugees, by the millions, are fleeing from Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Eritrea, etc., due to war, ISIS (Islamic State aka Daesh), poverty and who knows what else. Many have made it to Turkey, Hungary, Libya, Jordan, etc. with the ultimate goal of reaching Hungary/Germany/UK or anywhere within the European Union. Some are even trying to make it here to the United States, which thus far has accepted very few of these refugees. This is looking pretty horrible. How much is the West to blame in all this? Is the United States doing enough? Or should we not be involved at all? Didn't we sort of cause a lot of this by our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? What responsibility, if any, do we have in fixing this mess? Steve M. Ryan Medford Don't look away In response to Ms. Crawford, who suggests "walk the walk" by adopting five children, to say that women today cannot plan a family size without abortion is an absurdity. My question to Ms. Crawford is, would she have rationalized the use of the gas chambers at Auschwitz because there were not enough sponsors here in America for the victims? The Nazis argued that the victims were a burden on their culture, on their state. When your heart is closed you can rationalize almost anything ... an arm here, a leg there, etc. etc. etc., even an intact child suffering tremendous pain through the carnage. To not acknowledge an act of horror when it is staring you right in the face is the ultimate fulfillment of depravity. And in fact, for every child aborted there are two couples on the sidelines wanting to adopt and love. Watch the PP videos and do not look away! Sanda Collegio Central Point Pray for police My heart breaks for what is happening in our country. Who are we that a police officer is assassinated while gassing up his patrol car or other officers are targeted on the street? I feel an overwhelming burden from the evil that exists today. I fear for the safety of our police officers, sheriffs — all law enforcement personnel — and it weighs on my heart. I fear for their safety as they determine to serve and protect our communities. So, what are we to do in response to this hate? I have committed to stand in the gap between evil and those who serve our communities and pray! Who will join me and commit to pray for the safety of our law enforcement people? Pray alone. Pray together. Pray every day. Thanks to all law enforcement personnel for for all they do to serve our communities.
