Rodger Lee Oliver, Sgt., U.S.M.C Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jul. 7, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Jul. 7, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News Rodger Lee Oliver, Sgt., U.S.M.C Rodger Lee Oliver passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at approximately 21:00 hours at the young age of 43 in Trail. Rodger's untimely passing is a tragic loss for all friends and family, however, he has finally entered into the peace he has longed for, SEMPER FI! Rodger was born July 31, 1971 in Medford. Ore. the second son of Robert Lee Oliver and Keitha Rusk. From the beginning, Rodger was a prankster and comedian. He liked nothing more than to wind his friends up and make them laugh. Any of the kids who rode that old yellow school bus driven by Mr. Robison knows exactly what I’m talking about. Rodger attended Eagle Point High School where he graduated with honors in June of 1989. During his latter years of high school Rodger came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. His relationship and commitment to the Lord was refreshingly unbreakable. After high school Rodger attended Central Oregon Community College, as well as Southern Oregon University. In November of 1999 Rodger enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and went through basic training at MCRD San Diego. From there Rodger was assigned to HMM-364 MAG-39 as a Crew Chief on the CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter. Soon after training was complete he was on his way to Iraq with his brothers-in-arms. Rodger was one of the most selfless people I knew. He would vol-unteer for every mission he could to be with, save, and protect his fellow brothers. Rodger was involved in multiple medical evacuations. He held his Marine Corps Brothers in highest regard and they stayed in his heart always; they were never far from his thoughts and prayers. After his honorable discharge he returned to the Rogue Valley and met the love of his life, Kathleen Rhodes Oliver. Kathleen was Rodger's rock, she was the pillar that held Rodger up through his troubled times and she was with him until the end, just the way he would have wanted it to be. Rodger is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Rhodes Oliver (and beloved dogs, Poopie and Icky); son, Isaiah Oliver; father, Robert Oliver; mother, Keitha Rusk and Linda Oliver; and brothers, John Oliver and Bud McElroy. A graveside service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2763 Riley Rd, Eagle Point, OR 97524. In place of flowers, please make donations to UNHCR, earmarked for Iraqi and Syrian Refugees in honor of Rodger Lee Oliver, that’s just the way he would’ve wanted it to be.
