Brian Schireman had 23 points and seven assists for the Black Tornado in a 75-66 loss to the Irish. Kaison Faust added 14 points and five rebounds and Brad Allen seven points and 11 rebounds for North (18-5, 9-4 SWC), which couldn't keep up with hot-shooting Sheldon (17-6, 10-3). The Irish went 9 of 12 from the field in the opening quarter to take a 23-21 lead, and then knocked down 7 of their 11 second-period attempts to claim a 42-29 edge by halftime. "We went a little stale and they kept shooting well," North Medford head coach Scott Plankenhorn said. "That was the difference in the game." The Black Tornado made a few runs in the second half, cutting it to three at one point in the third quarter, but never claimed a lead. Sheldon used a 6-0 run to open the fourth quarter to create even more separation. Tucker Barry contributed eight points, three assists and two steals for North, which was 4 of 14 from the field in the fourth. The Tornado wraps up the regular season by hosting Roseburg on Tuesday. The Cavemen (8-14, 4-0 Southwest Conference) picked up eight points and nine boards from Tayler Phillips and nine points and four rebounds from Garrett Wallace. Cade Bates paced Thurston (7-16, 3-10) with 17 points in a game where just five players scored for each team. Edwards made 10 of 14 free throws for the Comets (5-18, 2-9 Midwestern League), who were 16-for-30 as a team. The Millers’ Nick Ah Sam and Gabe Sorber dropped in 20 and 19 points, respectively. NORTH EUGENE 47, ASHLAND 45: At Eugene, Walker Shibley delivered a game-high 21 points for Ashland but Aidan Lannom helped North Eugene rally in the fourth quarter. Lannom had 12 of his 17 points in the final period for the Highlanders (4-18, 2-8 Midwestern League), who trailed the Grizzlies 35-30 entering the frame. Shibley also hit five 3-pointers and Peyton Fuller added 11 points for the Grizzlies (8-12, 4-6), who have lost two in a row for the first time since Jan. 8. Ashland can still clinch a home game in the Class 5A play-in round by defeating Eagle Point on Tuesday.
