The Medford performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 15 , at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 1801 E. Jackson St. The Ashland performance will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17 , at the First United Methodist Church, 175 N. Main St. No advance tickets are needed, and admission is free; donations will be accepted. Musical selections will include “We Shall Be Free,” the hit anthem by Garth Brooks; “Kawouno Wan Gi Pi,” a Kenyan Dholuo song of gratitude for the gift of water; “Simple Gifts,” a traditional Shaker song whose melody was adapted by composer Aaron Copland in “Appalachian Spring”; “Touch the Sky,” from the Disney/PIXAR film Brave; and “Shower the People/All You Need is Love,” a mash-up of the James Taylor and Beatles hits, arranged by choir Director Rob Griswell-Lowry. The Rogue Valley Peace Choir is a nonprofit secular choir featuring more than 100 voices and dedicated to creating peace through song. The choir formed in 2003 and performs regularly at World AIDS Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day observances and other events throughout the Northwest. In 2006 the choir traveled to Japan to sing for peace in Hiroshima. Earlier this season, the choir hosted an event at the Southern Oregon University Recital Hall featuring peace choirs from Portland, Eugene, and Northern California.
