Raquel Vivianni Verdugo, 35, of the 600 block of Teakwood Drive, allegedly presented her children's Social Security numbers at Skinner Autoplex, Lithia Honda in Medford and Lithia Nissan of Medford to get financing, then drove away with vehicles in April and May. The three vehicles were financed for $16,414, $16,000 and $17,000 through Rogue Valley credit unions, according to affidavits. Verdugo has been indicted on multiple counts of first-degree aggravated theft for allegedly stealing items valued at more than $10,000, first-degree aggravated identity theft, identify theft, first-degree theft and negotiating a bad check. Jackson County Circuit Judge Patricia Crain rejected Verdugo's request Tuesday to enter drug treatment court. Drug court provides close supervision and the opportunity for the defendants to have their sentences reduced or eliminated if they meet established requirements. Verdugo's court-appointed defense attorney argued she deserved an opportunity to see if she could succeed in drug court.  Jackson County Deputy District Attorney Nick Geil said prosecutors and law enforcement officers strongly opposed allowing Verdugo to enter drug court. He said some people become addicted to drugs, then turn to crime to support their addictions. "Others are criminals who also happen to use drugs," Geil said. "She's the latter. She thinks like a criminal." In another case, Verdugo faces first-degree theft and negotiating a bad check charges for allegedly writing $467.45 worth of checks to Ray's Food Place in Eagle Point on a frozen bank account. Geil said Jackson County Sheriff's Office and Medford Police Department investigators are continuing to look into other crimes allegedly committed by Verdugo, and more charges may be filed against her. "We arrested her to get her off the street," he said. Verdugo has a pre-trial conference scheduled for July 27 on the car dealership and grocery store cases.
