Thrice is nice: Southern Oregon sees third lottery winner in a year Tuesday Mar 20, 2018 at 5:18 PM Mar 20, 2018 at 5:22 PM Local report A Phoenix man Monday won the third lottery prize in Southern Oregon worth $1 million or more this year. Damian Shepherd purchased six Oregon Lottery St. Patrick’s Day Raffle tickets — including the big one — at the Albertsons store on North Phoenix Road in Medford, a release from the Oregon Lottery said. He claimed his $1 million prize at the Lottery’s Salem headquarters Monday. Shepherd’s tickets counted up consecutive numbers, and the fifth of the six had the winning number, 189839. “We got lucky,” he said. Southern Oregon has been unusually lucky in 2018. Shepherd’s jackpot win was the third within a 40-mile radius in Southern Oregon in recent months, the release said. Ron Ceci of Grants Pass won a $2 million Powerball jackpot Jan. 4 at the Li’l Pantry, and Reggie Pearne won $1,000,004 Jan. 11 from Powerball tickets purchased at the J’Ville Tavern. The release said Jacksonville also is home to the largest lottery win in Oregon: A $340 million prize in 2005, which was the biggest jackpot nationwide until the following year, when a $365 million ticket was purchased in Nevada.
