Pool helps Comets roll to victory LAKE OSWEGO - With one of its season goals vanquished the night before, second-ranked Crater had little trouble getting up for tournament host and No. 4-ranked Lake Oswego on Friday. Behind a career-best game from senior point guard Sarah Pool, Crater rolled to an 82-55 victory in the adidas Laker Interstate Shootout. The Comets were coming off a 79-64 drubbing from No. 7 Central Catholic. "I think we were eager to shed what happened to us last night," said Crater coach David Heard. "Playing a ranked team on their floor and being humbled or embarrassed by our performance last night, I think we were pretty focused. That's what I was excited about." Crater (10-1) entertained the notion of going undefeated this year. "With some of our goals taken away last night," said Heard, "it could have been easy for us to go in the tank." Pool wouldn't allow it. The 5-foot-8 standout, who is headed to California on a scholarship, scored a career-high 30 points, hitting 4 of 5 from 3-point range. She also had 10 assists, six rebounds, two blocks and committed only two turnovers. Twenty of her points came in the first half. "She played the best game she's ever played for us," said Heard. "She totally controlled the game. Whatever she put up was going in. She had a hand in 50 of our points." Heard said Pool - whose previous high of 25 points came earlier this season in a California tournament - could have put up similar numbers in the past but hasn't always played the requisite number of minutes. Against a ranked team on its floor, she got the time. "When she gets in that kind of zone," said Heard, "she's pretty tough." Pool and Amy Denson, who finished with 24 points on 10 of 12 shooting and nine rebounds, scored all of Crater's 21 points in the first quarter. Pool canned three treys en route to 11 points and Denson scored 10. Lake Oswego didn't get closer than 11 thereafter. Sarah Yager made three 3-pointers and scored 10 points for the Comets. South (6-4) meets Sheldon for fifth place in the tournament today at 3 p.m. at Lake Oswego High.
