The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Siskiyous and Cascades, with a coverage area that extends from Jackson County's northeast corner — and over to Crater Lake — to its southeast corner west across the California border. Up to six inches of snow is expected east of the Cascades, and up to 10 inches could fall over the Siskiyous. As much as a foot of snow could fall at Crater Lake, weather officials said. Drivers on highways 62, 230 and 138 could face blowing snow, with whiteout conditions possible, weather officials said. "Strong winds could blow around unsecured items," a notice reads. "Driving will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles." The advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today., with the heaviest snow expected through the afternoon. Strong winds also are still expected in the hills, with sustained wind speeds of up to 35 mph and gusts of 45 mph, according to meteorologist Ryan Sandler. A wind advisory predicting those wind speeds also will be in effect for the valley floor until 4 p.m. today. The strongest breezes are expected in the southern end of the Rogue Valley.
