She was born March 27, 1951 to Stuart and Margaret McQueen in Medford, Ore. Marily graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1969. In 1970 she moved to Hawaii, returning a few years later to Medford. There, she met and married Dave Henselman in 1980. She owned and managed the Book Merchant before leaving, to live and ski in Lake Tahoe. She and Dave sailed and crewed yachts from the Caribbean to South America for a year, settling in Sacramento for a short period before the draw of the mountains, outdoor adventure, and skiing brought them to Reno, Nev. in 1993. She worked as a project manager at The Hartford, Intuit and Commercial Project Management. Marily was full of life with a sense of adventure and joy. As a young girl, she loved trying to keep up with her brothers in many outdoor activities, and in high school was a member of the Mt. Ashland Ski team. The speedy downhill races were her favorites, as was speed water skiing with her sister, Laurie. She remained an avid skier, hiker, mountain biker, and scuba diver throughout her life. Marily's passion for world travel and adventure were driven by her love of the outdoors, the people, and the cultures of the countries and places she visited. Some of her favorite activities were hiking the Inca Trail, rafting the Grand Canyon in a dory, kayaking and hiking in Alaska, trekking in New Zealand, and traveling throughout southeast Asia. She especially enjoyed Bali, Chang Mai, and Angkor Wat. She recently dove with whale sharks in the Philippines. She and Dave made regular trips to dive the reefs at Roatan in Honduras. Marily had a deep connection with God, and enjoyed mentoring young women. She was instrumental in bringing Big Brothers and Sisters to northern Nevada, served on the founding board, and established the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada scholarship fund for continuing education. She was awarded ‘Big Sister of the Year’ for her mentoring. In addition, she supported several girls in Africa and India through World Vision International. She was passionate about educating girls, with the belief that it would not only improve their lives, but it would serve their families and communities as well. Close to her family, Marily had a special connection with her nieces and nephews, recognizing their unique qualities with unconditional love. She is survived by her loving husband, Dave; her mother, Margaret McQueen; her brothers, Mark and Ladd; her sister, Laurie MacGraw; her nieces and nephews; many friends and those whom she mentored and loved, along the way. A remembrance and celebration of life for Marily will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Hidden Valley Country Club, Reno Nevada. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Marily McQueen Henselman Scholarship Fund of Northern Nevada, or the charity of your choice.
