Rogue River falls twice in LL series KALAMZOO, Mich. -- A championship is no longer in the picture, but Rogue River's Senior Little League girls softball team isn't through playing. Despite the two losses in the senior girls world series, Rogue River still has a shot at third place, meeting Mexico at 1 p.m. today. Fresh from winning the West Regional title, Rogue River came out sluggish against South Regional champion Florida on Monday. Rogue River failed to get its bats going, losing the first game in the 14-16-year-old Little League Girls softball World Series, 9-0. "We just didn't play well," said first baseman/outfielder Lacey Mack. "It just didn't seem like we were ready to play." Rogue River looked like they had things turned around on Tuesday, jumping out to a 5-0 lead over the Philippines before a bizarre turn of events. The Philippines' coach disagreed with Rogue River coach Dennis Artoff's substitution pattern, sending the game into a half-hour delay while the umpires consulted national officials. When play resumed, the Philippines, trailing 5-2 in the top of the seventh, scored three runs to notch a 5-5 tie and send the contest into extra innings. The Philippines scored the eventual winning run on a passed ball in the eighth to steal the win. "The trip has been fun," said Mack. "All of the host families are very friendly and the people here are interesting. "We are all very proud that we made it this far, but the loss to the Philippines was really disappointing."
