Mike Hernandez, 34, walked out of Shy’s Cafe & Lounge in Shady Cove Friday night about 11:30 p.m. and hasn’t been seen since, said Shady Cove Police Chief Kim Gibson. Tuesday at 10 a.m., his employer at Brownie’s Restaurant & Catering reported he hadn’t shown up for work, Gibson said. Police contacted Hernandez’s friends and relatives and pieced together that his disappearance was out of character. Hernandez lives alone and doesn’t drive or have a car, Gibson said. Shy’s lounge, where Hernandez stops several times a week for a drink and some karaoke, is nearly five miles from Hernandez’s home, but the trek wouldn’t be extraordinary for him, Gibson said. "He walks everywhere," Gibson said. "He’s a healthy guy, but he was complaining of not feeling well that night." Gibson and searchers worry that Hernandez could have fallen and injured himself. Police have listed him as possibly endangered because they have so little information about his disappearance. "No foul play is suspected, but we just don’t know," Gibson said. "We hope for the best." Searchers using dogs as well as a helicopter from Brim’s Aviation in Ashland focused on a five-mile area along Indian Creek southeast of Shady Cove. They suspended the search at dark Tuesday and planned to resume looking this morning, sheriff’s Capt. Joe Puckett said. Hernandez stands 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 185 pounds. He has brown eyes and short black hair that is graying. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a brown pullover sweater and a black baseball cap.
