BUNKER HILL COMPLEX Lemolo Lake Resort remains open after nearby fire slows Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jun. 29, 2015 at 1:55 PM Posted Jun. 29, 2015 at 1:55 PM » Social News Lemolo Lake Resort and Forest Service campgrounds at Poole Creek and East Lemolo remain open after the Bunker Hill fire, burning 15 miles north of Diamond Lake, slowed down a bit Sunday, allowing firefighters to make progress. The U.S. Forest Service said Saturday it would be evacuating Lemolo Lake Resort and campgrounds around the lake as a safety precaution against the blaze burning a mile north of the lake. But cooler and cloudy conditions moderated fire behavior yesterday, according to fire officials, allowing fire fighters to complete fire lines on the northeast flank of the Bunker Hill fire. Mop-up operations will begin on that portion today. Fire lines were also completed on the flanks facing Lemolo Lake, and today's plan may include beginning some burnout operations to further secure containment lines. The 163-acre fire started Friday afternoon from lightning, and five other fires were confirmed on the Diamond Lake Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest. Bunker Hill, Inlet and Crystal Springs campgrounds have been closed to protect public safety, officials said. The 100-acre fire started Friday afternoon from lightning. Five other fires are also confirmed on the Diamond Lake Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest. Fire crews are responding to additional smoke reports across the Forest.
